Marta Mestre is a curator, editor and art critic and works in Portugal and Brazil. Graduated in Art History and Culture and Communication – Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Université d´Avignon -, she did a master’s research on Mediation and Contemporary art. She was curator at Inhotim Institute, Minas Gerais / Brazil, assistant curator at Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro / Brazil, guest curator and teacher at the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro / Brazil, coordinator of the Center for Artes de Sines / Portugal. She started her professional work in 2003 as an exhibition mediator at Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon and at Jorge Vieira Museum / Casa das Artes, Beja. As an independent curator she develops projects and researches on historical narration of art, with an emphasis on counter-narratives of contemporary art, artist archives and on cultural, social and political movements. She regularly writes essays and texts for institutions, magazines and projects such as MASP, SESC-São Paulo, IMS, Serralves Foundation, Concinittas, Terremoto, Buala, Inland Journal, Contemporânea, Re.vis.ta, Select, among others.She was the recipient of art grants such as: “Laboratório Curatorial / SPArte”, São Paulo 2012 ′ and “Travel Grant Award / CIMAM”, Doha 2014 and Sidney 2019. She was one of the nominates to present a proposal for Portuguese representation at the 58.ª Biennale di Venezia 2019, which she did through a dialogue between cinema and drawing, with the Portuguese artist Pedro A. H.Paixão and the Angolan filmmaker and writer Ruy Duarte de Carvalho.She currently participates in juries of visual arts awards (21st SESC-Videobrasil Biennial of Contemporary Art, Fuso 2018, Ministry of Culture / Funarte Award for Contemporary Art 2015, Exhibition program Center Centro Cultural São Paulo 2014, Abre Alas Galeria “A Gentil Carioca” 2013, among others).
