Emmanuelle Ducrocq












Emmanuelle Ducrocq was born in Morocco. She arrived in Paris in 1987 and successively discovered drawing, sculpture, theater and then landscape. Through these different universes, she questions our relationship to space and by extension to what binds us to them. From 2005, it became the main subject of her work and she became a visual artist by creating in situ, unique and often ephemeral works, which she produced during residencies in France and abroad. Space is the material, the partner and the stage of creation. The work is a response to what she receives from the place. It is inspired by its physical characteristics, its history, its use and the problems it raises. Regularly, the inhabitants are invited to collaborate in the elaboration of the work. It challenges the passer-by and the inhabitant to take another look at the space being created and to point out possible changes; let the work and the space interact in a vibrant way. Its construction and/or installation is often performative, involving the body in tune with place and time. Over the course of the creations, obsessions appear: the vertical and the horizontal, the opening and the closing, the repetition and the stacking of the same element. In the studio, the in situ process continues but the introspection moves on to what inhabits it more intimately. Objects found or received enter the space to mutually resonate. The symbol, the definition of the object, its psychoanalytic resonance are activated. Constructions are necessary. Dream, ritual, the studio oscillates between a “cabinet de curiosité” and an “aire de (je)”.

Emmanuelle Ducrocq est née au Maroc. Elle arrive à Paris en 1987 et découvre successivement le dessin, la sculpture, le théâtre puis le paysage. A travers ces différents univers, elle interroge notre rapport à l’espace et par extension ce qui nous lie à eux. A partir de 2005, il devient le sujet principal de son travail et elle devient plasticienne par la réalisation d’œuvres in situ, uniques et souvent éphémères, qu’elle réalise au cours de résidences, en France et à l’étranger. L’espace est la matière, le partenaire et la scène de création. L’œuvre est une réponse à ce qu’elle reçoit du lieu. Elle s’inspire de ses caractéristiques physiques, son histoire, son usage et sa problématique. Régulièrement, les habitants sont invités à collaborer à l’élaboration de l’œuvre. Elle interpelle le passant et l’habitant pour engager un autre regard sur l’espace en création et pointer du doigt une réparation possible ; que l’œuvre et l’espace entrent en vibration. Sa construction et/ou son installation est souvent performative impliquant le corps en prise avec le lieu et, du temps. Au fil des réalisations, apparaissent des obsessions : la verticale et l’horizontale, l’ouverture et la fermeture, la répétition et l’empilement d’un même élément. En atelier, le processus in situ se poursuit mais l’introspection se déplace sur ce qui l’habite plus intimement. Des objets trouvés ou reçus pénètrent dans l’espace pour y résonner mutuellement. Le symbole, la définition de l’objet, sa résonance psychanalytique sont activés. Des constructions s’imposent. Rêve, rituel, l’atelier oscille entre un « cabinet de curiosité » et une aire de (je).
